Families remember loved ones who died in fatal accidents

Nothing can prepare a family for the sudden death of one of their members. Dealing with the loss of a loved one is among the most difficult things that a person could ever have to go through. Every year, too many fatal accidents claim the lives of people in the Ocala area and throughout Florida. Sometimes, however, family members of the deceased victims can take some comfort in telling their stories and trying to prevent other people from suffering a similar fate.

Recently, a group of people got together at a conference center near the University of Florida to promote safe driving. The event, which was called "Staying Alive on 75 & Florida's Roadways," drew about 100 people, including members of law enforcement and other government officials.

During the event, people who have been affected by motor vehicle accidents spoke about the wrecks that changed their lives. One man told the group about the fatal car crash that took the life of one of his daughters and left the other in critical condition. The man started a foundation named after his deceased daughter, which co-sponsored the safe driving event. Other speakers at the event included a member of the Florida Highway Patrol and the father of a man who caused a fatal accident and was convicted of criminal charges related to that accident.

No person should have to go through the agony of losing a family member in a motorcycle or car accident. Negligence is the cause of many of these accidents, and drivers can prevent them from happening by exercising reasonable care while driving. All Florida motorists should remember that nothing is more important than preserving the safety of everyone on the road.
